Founded in 1896 as a branch to the British Royal Mint, Perth Mint today is one of the largest minting plants globally, owned by the Western Australian government. The Australian Gold Lunar Series I began in 1996 with the Year of the Mouse and ended in 2007 with the Year of the Pig bullion coins. Lunar Series II began in 2008 with the Year of the Mouse and ends in 2019 with the Year of the Pig bullion coins. Produced by the Perth Mint, Australian Lunar bullion coins are popular with collectors and investors alike.
DESIGN:
The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and inscriptions that include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and 100 DOLLARS.
The reverse features a dragon with inscriptions 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, 2000 and the Chinese character for "Dragon".
