Founded in 1896 as a branch to the British Royal Mint, Perth Mint today is one of the largest minting plants globally, owned by the Western Australian government. The Gold Nugget was introduced in 1986 by the Gold Corporation, a company wholly owned by the government of Western Australia. Gold Kangaroos have been produced by Perth Mint since 1989 and are one of the purest gold coins in the world at .9999 purity. The Nugget is minted in denominations of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 10 oz and 1 kg.
This special edition was minted by The Perth Mint to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Gold Kangaroo series.
The reverse of the coin features the iconic red kangaroo leaping along with the “P25” mintmark, dual years 1989-2014 and the coin's purity and weight.
The coins are legal tender in Australia, and the 1 oz Nugget has a face value of A$100.
Limited to a maximum mintage of just 65,000.
