The designer of this intriguing, rectangular gold reverse proof is none other than Darryl Bellotti, who has also designed the Australian Koala coins and the Discover Australia - The Dreaming silver, gold and platinum animal coins. He is an indigenous or native Australian, what we call an Aborigine, who for generations untold coexisted with the endemic Australian animals, hunting them as necessary but always respecting their Spirits. This ingot- or bar-shaped coin symbolizes the native people's entering the Dreaming - and it's Australian legal tender, too!

In Darryl's own words: Sunlight glimmers on small bubbles that pierce the surface of the water as the irrabuga (dolphin) herds the mulyguda (mullet) towards the shallows. The hunter lies in wait as the mulyguda come within striking distance.

Each summer for generations the irrabuga have helped my people catch mulyguda - a close bond we share with these beautiful creatures to this day.

The Dolphin - Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are highly social animals inhabiting bays and estuaries all around Australia. Their ever-smiling appearance suggests a fun-loving nature that is confirmed by frequent tail slapping, wake-riding and general playfulness.

Extremely smart, they are able to communicate with each other using high frequency whistles, clicks and squeaks. Dolphins travel in family or clan groups called pods. Pods allow dolphins to better defend their young from their main predators, sharks, as well as to ingeniously herd fish into shoals for easier harvest.
