This silver proof coin is the first release in The Royal Mint's Treasury of Tales Series, and the first of two Alice in Wonderland coins. The coin features an image of Alice and The Cheshire Cat by Sir John Tenniel. This appeared in the first publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The coins were issued in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum, whose Alice in Wonderland exhibition is running until the end of 2021. Struck from 999 fine silver, this 1 ounce coin is issued to a proof standard. It is the only coin in the series to feature colour on the reverse design. On her journey she meets an assortment of characters, including the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, The Cheshire Cat and Tweedledee and Tweedledum. To date, the book has been translated into 176 languages and has never been out of print!
