First issued in 1989, the Australian Kangaroo is an iconic annual coin series portraying our most recognised animal symbol. Treasured for the way they hop on elongated hind legs and rear young ‘joeys’ in the female’s pouch, tens of millions of kangaroos inhabit diverse landscapes across the vast Australian continent.

A pioneer of 24-carat gilding in modern numismatics, The Perth Mint is noted for releases featuring the selective application of this treatment on the central design motif. In a new innovation, we’ve ‘reversed’ the process on this coin by applying it to the design background instead of the bounding kangaroo. The gilded area includes the inscription ‘KANGAROO’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid, which comes in an illustrated shipper.
