First issued in 1996 and now in its third round, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the animals of the ancient Chinese lunar zodiac with a sequence of annual designs portraying the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. These 2022 proof coins feature the tiger, which is said to bestow determination, courage, confidence and charm on those born under its influence in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and 2022.
Portraying a tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain, each coin features a different combination of surface treatments; a proof quality finish featuring frosted tigers on a mirror-like table, a frosted table with 24-carat gilding on the tiger and cub, and a proof table with vivid colour highlighting the tiger and cub.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the set is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid and an illustrated shipper which aligns with other Trio releases to form a diorama of every animal in the lunar calendar.
