An expression of pride for these incredible landscapes, the Heart of the Forest pulsating field pattern returns in 2025, transporting the viewer into the heart of a misty forest on the reverse of this 5-oz. coin—the largest (65 mm) of our 2025 Ultra-High Relief (UHR) Silver Maple Leaf (SML) and Gold Maple Leaf (GML) coins. The trees fall in and out of view behind the maple leaf struck in Ultra-High Relief (UHR) and highlighted by rose gold plating, which stands in for red, the boldest of Canada’s fall hues and official colours.

  • Elevating art. The SML’s iconic leaf features a peak relief height of 1.4 mm, which is higher than the typical 5-oz. SML.
  • Enhanced laser engraving: The Heart of the Forest pulsating effect is produced using an array of microscopic cubes that are positioned in such a way that they reflect light back to the viewer, creating the illusion of a shifting and never-ending view. This novel effect was achieved on the master tooling by using advanced laser engraving technology. Traditional engraving is no longer limited to millimetres—it is now possible to achieve engraved details as small as 0.02 mm.
